We’re biased, but we believe a trip to Stags’ Leap Winery is a one-of-a-kind excursion every wine enthusiast should experience. Our winery is not a typical Napa Valley experience. We’re secluded, tucked away on a private road away from the hustle and bustle of other areas. You’ll find our serene property is filled with rich history, exciting stories, and delicious wines we can’t wait to share.
Whether you’re a Napa regular or a first-time visitor, we want to share a bit on why Stags’ Leap Winery is a must on your itinerary. We’ll also share a few of our favorite local spots. We can’t wait to see you!
How to Find Us

We aren’t exaggerating when we call ourselves a hidden gem. Our winery is situated on a private road that is not recognized by most GPS systems. However, once you know, you know, and we’re not ones to keep a secret!
From Napa, drive North on Silverado Trail towards Calistoga. You’ll find the turn to Stags’ Leap Winery approximately seven miles from the corner of Silverado Trail and Trancas Avenue. Our private road will be on your right.
From Calistoga, drive South on the Silverado Trail towards Napa. You’ll find us approximately half a mile south of Yountville Cross Road. Our private road will be on your left.
Watch for a blue highway sign that lists all of the addresses on our street. Once you turn, follow the paved private road over the cattle guard, down the walnut tree-lined path, over the narrow bridge, and through the open gate. When you see the Manor House, you’ll know you’re in the right place.

Curosities Around the Vineyard

Stags’ Leap Winery has a deep history, and many remarkable characters have called the Manor House home. You can imagine that over centuries, we’ve accumulated quite a few legends and curiosities that echo across the vineyard today.
In the 1890s, our founder, Horace Chase, had one of the first wine caves in the region hand-chiseled into the rock of the Palisades. We still age select lots of our wine today.
Beneath the Manor House, you’ll find a post office once used by the home’s guests. That’s not all. During Prohibition, a speakeasy was hidden behind it, complete with a trap door that can still be seen on the ground floor.
Even our plants have stories. Over 100 years old, our agaves bloom only once in their long lives. They were acquired by an avid plant collector and early Stags’ Leap proprietress, Frances Grange. You’ll also notice our Moon Garden, where a plethora of white flowers shimmer under the full moon and three palm trees that were planted by Frances Grange in the 1920s as souvenirs of a Canary Islands vacation.
From friendly ghosts, to the first plunge pool in California and all-night dance parties in the wine cave, our grounds are rich with stories. Visit us to discover them for yourself.
When to Visit
It’s always a good time to visit Napa Valley! We have a mild, Mediterranean climate. This means you can expect warm, dry summers and cool (but mild) winters.
Each season offers something a little different:
-
Summer: Long, sunny days with warmer temperatures and a lively atmosphere.
-
Fall: Harvest season, so you’ll see plenty of action in the vineyard.
-
Winter: Cozy, cool, and relatively peaceful. It’s a great time to settle in with a glass of Cabernet.
-
Spring: Mild days, cool nights, and gorgeous blooms around the vineyard.
