Inspiration

Everyone who arrives becomes an unofficial artist-in-residence. Watching the moon rise over the vineyards? Listening to the singing of owl's hunting flight? Who wouldn't be inspired by this?

Arts & Letters

A dedication to arts and letters is woven through twelve decades of gatherings and celebrations
Stags' Leap Winery founders Horace and Minnie Mizner ChaseFounders Horace and Minnie Mizner Chase entertained on a lavish scale. This place has been a hearth, but also a dance floor, a fabulous setting, a theater. Carl Doumani is a patron of the arts himself, and a bon vivant. During his ownership (1970–1997), he contributed further to the legacy of culture and entertainment. The contemporary focus on arts and literature at the winery is part of this tradition.

A contemporary Artist in Residence program began in 1993 with a Poets’ Weekend celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the winery, and has included artist Patrick McFarlin’s painting salon (Napa Valley: Portrait of a Community), a culinary poetry event (Saudades), a stay by sculptor Robert Lobe, and conceptual artist, Paul Kos. In 2001, the winery commissioned an estate book documenting the winery’s winemaking, history, natural history, and culture.
