Our Featured Reds

A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Petite Sirah, Audentia pushes Cabernet Sauvignon to a new level of power and concentration while still maintaining the winery’s signature touch of elegance. The fruit is incredibly concentrated with almost double the color and tannins than that of Cabernet Sauvignon. Unique to the Stags’ Leap Estate, this Petite Sirah maintains the wonderful black fruit flavors and power that are beloved of the varietal without the dominant spice and floral notes. This allows the Petite Sirah to be a wonderful counterpart to Cabernet Sauvignon, extracting power, richness and elegance from each varietal. It reinforces what the varietal can achieve while beautifully reflecting on the land and history of our storied Estate.

Each year, winemaker Christophe Paubert finds an amusing surprise – a varietal enhanced through exceptional terroir and the unique weather of the growing season. The 2012 vintage was ideal for bright, fresh fruit aromatics and flavors that were especially exceptional in Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec, traditionally known as three of the five grapes used in a classic Bordeaux assemblage, and significant parts of historic blends at Stags’ Leap.

The 2012 Winemaker’s Muse is an instant pleasure, from the fresh, vibrant red fruit flavors and plush texture telling of the Merlot to the delicious spice and slight floral notes from the Malbec. Captivating for its lush cherry, plum and cassis flavors, this red blend has a soft allure, yet is filled with power and concentration.

Deeply colored, the 2012 Napa Valley Petite Sirah is a classic example of the full-bodied, rich varietal. Generous in flavor, with blackberry, black cherry, mulberry and subtle hints of rose tea, vanilla, graphite, clove spice and sweet tobacco, this wine exhibits the full spectrum of Petite Sirah’s signature characteristics. The beautiful flavors remain fresh throughout, the tannins are dense, but unbelievably soft, and the finish is luxuriously long.

92 points: "A fabulous wine, the 2012 Petite Sirah was co-fermented with 1% Viognier, and includes 12% Syrah, 8% Grenache and 2% Carignan in the blend. Beautiful aromas of lavender, acacia flowers, blueberries, black raspberries, licorice and graphite emerge from this full-bodied, rich Petite Sirah. While approachable because of the vintage’s sweet tannins, it will age easily for 15-20 years." The Wine Advocate
